Little Guys – A.K.A. The Garden Struggle is Real

Hey Gastronauts,

** SAD TROMBONES ** any gardeners out there in the blogosphere know the garden struggle is all too real. You may recall my previous post about the absurdly smart mouse that ate all our seedlings in our “green house” (a.k.a. the shelf under the window in the garage) yet managed to evade ALL THE TRAPS, including our cat! And you may also recall me sobbing about a FAT and I mean FAT gopher eating our entire raised bed of veggies. ( I am not fat shaming the gopher. He ate well. He lived like a king. He met his demise.) With all those troubles past us it seemed our garden was up and running again and well on its way to garden glory – enter the sad trombones – This weekend we found ourselves with a row of dead potatoes. We read online that when the greens of a potato die, it’s time to dig them up and have some tasty noms. So contrary to what you’d think, a row of dead plants was a beautiful thing to see. My boyfriend grabbed his trusty shovel, I readied my apron in anticipation of filling it with our bounty, even the finches seemed to pause their pecking away at our bird feeder to watch this glorious moment….

What happened? They’re all so… little. Little guys…. maybe I’ll make a mini potato salad for the mouse now living in my shed.

C’est la vie! We march on.

(Side Note- check out those onions!)
